Description
With this starting kit you can start dyeing in an instance!
This kit contains everything you need to start:
• 25 g Indigo (plant based pigment powder)
• 50 g Calcium hydroxide (slaked lime)
• 75 g Fructose
• 5 Marbles (to help the mixing process)
• Disposable gloves
• 25 g Merino wool to dye
• A step by step Guide
Also needed (not included):
• A pan and two bowls
• Some more fabric, twine, yarn or fibers to dye.
This kit contains enough to dye approximately 250 grams of fabric (the dry weight) in a dark blue color. Do you want to dye a lighter shade of blue, you can use more fabric.
With the 1-2-3 recipe you can make a simple and environmentally friendly indigo dye bath. You can dye for example wool, silk or cotton.
There are multiple recipes for dying with indigo out there. This modern, environmentally friendly technique called 1-2-3 indigo dyeing bath is invented by the French master dyer Michel Garcia. His recipe works with the 1:2:3 ingredient ratio:
1 part Indigo
2 parts Calcium hydroxide
3 parts Fructose
Dyeing with indigo is something magical! As soon as you get the fabric out of the bath, you can see the color change. This occurs due to the exposure to oxygen. It changes from green to beautiful blue.
Try some other techniques, like tie dyeing!
(Due to differences in computer displays, the pictured colors are just an indication of the actual color. Moreover, wool is a natural product that is subject to natural variations. This can be of influence on the ultimate color after dyeing.)
