Does your thread break? Then it probably gets to dry. Luckily, this can be easily overcome!
Hold the thread for a couple of minutes above some warm steam, like a kettle or pan of water (please watch your hands with the heat!). You shall see the thread will get strong again!
For hundreds of years lace-makers have used this neat solution. They knew that you should, for example, never seat yourself in the sun whilst using linen thread. The heat will dry out linen, so it will then easily break. A little bit of steam does the trick!
