Icelandic wool

This Icelandic wool Lopi, comes from the approximately 500,000 sheep that inhabit the island. These produce about 1000 tons of wool per year. A large part of it is locally washed, carded and spun and then processed into sweaters, hats, scarves and mittens with the familiar, traditional Icelandic patterns.

Who does not know the beautiful Icelandic sweaters? The knitting yarns are spun from this beautiful wool with a warm, light grey tone. It is certainly not super fine wool, but it feels softer than you would expect.

Tips!

To reduce loss of hair, you must continue to shrink considerably during felting. If you use this wool for XXL knitting, then knit a bit tighter than normal. It is better to use knitting-needles and not to arm knit with this wool. Tip: twist the wool one turn at each stitch. Then you spin the roving lightly and the wool gets more bandage, so that it hairs less.

How long is this roving?

Wool is usually sold per weight. But sometimes you want to know how long the wool roving is. We have calculated the roving length of the different packages below:

• 50 grams = approx. 2 meters
• 250 grams = about 10 meters
• 1 kilo = about 40 meters

Please note that this is an approximation. The length can vary per type of wool, per colour or per production. And the harder you pull, the longer the roving becomes.

Would you want to make sure you get the wool roving in one piece?

We try our best to deliver the roving in one piece. But please count in that even when we try our best we don’ t always succeed. Sometimes we have no choice but to deliver the desired quantity in two or more pieces. If it is very important and you want to make sure you get the wool roving in one piece, please order a bump.

Keep in mind to order enough

A natural product such as wool is not always the same. Every herd, every sheep and every shaving season is different. Therefore, make sure that you order sufficient wool for your project at once. We can not guarantee that you will receive exactly the same wool for the next order.
