Description
Weld (Reseda luteola) Wouw (NL)
Family: Resedaceae
Dye: Yellow
Grand-teint
For centuries, weld has been used as a dyeing plant in Europe.
It can be used to dye bright shades of yellow, and if you mordant it with Iron sulphate, the colour changes to green.
The stems and leaves are used to extract the dyes.
You can use weld fresh but it is also available in dried form. It then comes from Turkey and has a higher content of colouring.
If you want to dye your yarn, your shirt or any other textile yellow, you will find a basic recipe to dye with weld on this page!
